Description

This OpenSciEd session is designed to equip secondary educators with the foundational knowledge of the curriculum needed to implement their first OpenSciEd unit in the middle or high school classroom. Participants will explore the architecture and routines of OpenSciEd, experience an anchoring phenomenon, navigate teacher resources , and explore key shifts in student-centered sensemaking aligned to Kentucky's Academic Standards for Science.

Who is it For?

Grades 6-12 Science Teachers NEW to OpenSciEd, Instructional Leaders, Curriculum Coaches

Learning Targets
  • Navigate Curricular Resources: Access the OpenSciEd teacher materials and understand how to plan for student learning.
  • Develop an Understanding of Teacher and Student Roles in an OpenSciEd Classroom: Experience a lesson from a student's point of view and debrief in teacher hat.
  • Explore NGSS/KAS Shifts: Examine key instructional shifts and how OpenSciEd materials support three-dimensional learning
