Explain the reciprocal relationship between reading and writing and describe how writing supports word recognition, language development, and comprehension.
Identify evidence-based writing practices that strengthen reading development, including sentence-level work, transcription skills (handwriting and spelling), and text-based writing.
Analyze literacy instruction to determine where reading and writing are intentionally connected, and where opportunities for stronger alignment exist.
Design instruction that integrates reading and writing within Tier 1 instruction, ensuring that writing tasks reinforce the skills and knowledge students are developing as readers.
Use student writing as a source of instructional evidence to inform reading instruction, intervention decisions, and progress monitoring.
